In late, February, all our snow was melting and though it wasn’t quite warm enough for shorts (for me), it was pleasant for running outside. Most of the run was charging through puddles! Do you charge right through, staying on the pavement? Or do get around on the grass and hope you are sinking into mud too much?

I’m a believer in staying on course. Hopping up on the grass can put you in a slicker spot from mud. I don’t want to slip and fall. It makes sense to me to stay on the concrete. I further theorize this by the action: when your foot hits the puddle, the water is displaced. You are not staying still long enough for the water to fall back and submerge your foot. Even if it’s the entire length in front of a house, I’ll run straight through the puddle, splashing all the way.
Tell me, what do you do? Stay on the path or leapfrog around puddles?

This is one of my worst phobias (is there a proper name for sidewalk puddle fear?) I must have had a horrible experience as a child, because I totally avoid them. When I step in a sidewalk puddle I feel dizzy and imagine my feet are going out from under me. I will trudge through mud to the side of it instead. And I run on a sidewalk in a park that’s constantly watered, so I deal with it a lot. And now I will spend the rest of the day with my feet up on a stool. Just in case. Thanks a bunch. But seriously, please work on finding that phobia name. Thanks!
